Geraldine Parent family picnic and awards ceremonies

In 2016, Special Camp renamed its Family Picnics and Awards Ceremonies in honor of Geraldine Parent.  “Although her given name was Geraldine, to her friends she was known as “Geri” and to family as “De De”, a nickname given by a small family child that never left her, primarily because she loved her role as “Aunt De De”.  Although she was born in Los Angeles County and spent the majority of her life and working career there, during her last 9 years, until she passed away on July 14, 2015, she resided in Aliso Viejo to be near family.  She never married and nearly all of her employment was spent in the banking industry.  After retirement and moving to Aliso Viejo her passion was directed toward children.  She volunteered at a local elementary school to read stories to first and second-grade children.   To honor the life and memory of Geraldine (De De) Parent, therefore, the “Geraldine Parent Family Picnic and Awards Ceremony” fund was established by her family with funds specifically set-aside by her for children’s charitable purposes. It is our hope that the memory of our wonderful sister will live-on in the memories and hearts of these young people benefiting from this enriching “Special” camp program”.

Stefanie Canright endowment scholarship fund

Stefanie Erin Canright graduated from Emory College with a B.A. in Psychology in 2000. Originally from San Juan Capistrano, California, Stefanie was president of her sorority, Delta Delta Delta, and was very active in her local community both at Emory and at home in California.
Stefanie was a great lover of travel and adventure, as well as a proponent of education continuing outside the classroom. “Tragically, Stefanie passed away in 2004, but her memory lives on in the form of the Stefanie Canright Scholarship Fund for Special Camp. Campers and counselors are able to request need-based scholarships in order to attend a session of Special Camp.
To honor the memory of Stefanie’s life, her family and friends established the Stefanie Canright Scholarship Fund for Special Camp.
The scholarship will enable Stefanie’s love of Special Camp and her passion for her community to live on forever.

The Canright family requests that gifts in honor of Stefanie’s life be made to:
